The Town |
|
The band is based in the picturesque border town of Jedburgh, with its beautiful abbey.
The Abbey is the most identifiable image of Jedburgh. Now ruined it is still an imposing structure and worth seeing. The Abbey's Visitor's Centre contains a museum charting its history.
Mary, Queen of Scots briefly lived in the town during 1566 and her story is told at the Visitor Centre on Queen Street.
The 'Town Trail' is two miles long and takes in all the local points of interest. From the Abbey to the Public Hall and all points in between, it takes around two hours to complete and is a great activity for visitors. More information can be collected at the Tourist Information Centre where the trail both begins and ends.
Jedburgh Castle Jail and Museum is also worth a visit. It is a 19th century reform prison and features displays on the history of the town.

Jedforest Pioneers |
|
The early days The JIB were one of first to adopt brass instruments with valves. Prior to Adolphe Sax perfecting the Valved brass instrument in 1842 earlier attempts were pretty much useless. These new inventions reached Jedburgh little more than a decade later in 1854 prior to which the people of Jedburgh had to make do with flutes, drums and bagpipes!
